Projects
Below are brief descriptions of some of my relevant projects, click on the subheading to read more and view pictures or other relevant information.
My Eagle Scout Project was to create a digital map of invasive plant species to aid the removal of invasive species, totaling 118-man hours. The final product was a heat map of the invasive species. This served as the starting point for the Friends of the San Ramon Creek to further map sections of the creek. Additionally, it was updated to reflect further Eagle Scout projects to remediate stands of Arundo Donax. By having the locations mapped, remediation efforts can be tracked and the map can be updated. Each pin-point has a picture of the stand associated with it to visually keep track of the location and size.
While at Cal Poly, I have completed a variety of CNC Machining projects utilizing multi-axis toolpaths and a variety of CNC equipment including a: 3-axis mill, 3+1 axis mill, 3+2 axis mill with trunion, and lathe.
At home, I built a CNC Mill and Laser Cutter using OpenBuilds parts and software. Designs were made in various Adobe softwares and gcode made in OpenBuilds open-source software.
I have used many different techniques of woodworking including: CNC milling, drilling, hand carving, wood turning, scroll-saw cutting.
The Cast in Steel competition is put on by The Steel Founders’ Society of America each year. This past year students from across the US were challenged to make a Bowie knife with an integrally cast blade, hand-guard and tang as well as a cast pommel. The competition is judged on the knife itself, as well as a report which is below. A video of the knife made by my team (Cal Poly Team 2) can be viewed on the SFSA website.
The Cast in Steel competition is put on by The Steel Founders’ Society of America each year. This year students from across the US will be challenged to make Thor's Hammer. We are working with Aurora Casting Company in Santa Paula, CA.
I have done other projects while at Cal Poly that used manufacturing techniques including welding, injection molding, CNC metal laser cutting, and powder coating.
