Involvement
Below are brief descriptions of my involvement while at Cal Poly, click on the subheading to read more and view pictures or other relevant information.
Due to the online nature of the Fall 2020 quarter, I have been on a team to plan and run an online career fair for the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department. Weekly meetings cover logistics, planning, advertising, and communications.
Besides general advice on other topics, my specialty has been to prepare, manage, and set up surveys with automated responses. I suggested using Microsoft Forms as it would allow for security measures when sending the survey to students as we could tie it to their student email and prevent multiple submissions. When rolling out the company registration, one of the first companies to register sent an email to a colleague thanking them for the invitation to register and that they looked forward to their confirmation email. I was forwarded this email and then taught myself how to use Microsoft Power Automate to send automated confirmation emails to all companies that register.
These surveys have been sent out to all companies that will attend the career fair and all students in the IME Department.
I have been a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers & The American Foundry Society Club since 2017. The club runs demonstrations of manufacturing processes, CAD software, factory tours, and our yearly trip to the SEMA Automotive Show in Las Vegas.
I was Club Treasurer during the 2019-2020 school year, where I kept track of club expenditures and filled out club financial forms. Additionally, I helped in club event planning such as the trip to SEMA in Las Vegas.
This year I was elected to the position of Vice President for the 2020-2021 school year. We will be trying novel ways to keep the club involved and running virtually for the foreseeable future.
Cal Poly's IME Department has the last student run fee committee in the College of Engineering. Once per quarter, students present their project or travel plans and the Student Fee Committee determines if/how much funding they receive from the department.
